Leo – Energetic Zodiac Leaders

A regal lion with a glowing golden mane under a starry sky

In the tropical zodiac that Western astrology uses, Leo is the fifth sign and covers birthdays from about July 23 to August 22. It is a Fixed Fire sign ruled by the Sun, its symbol is the Lion (♌), and its natural house is the Fifth House of creativity, romance and play. The traits linked to it are warmth, loyalty, courage and a strong need to be seen, with pride and stubbornness as the cost.

This guide covers the Leo personality, how Leos act with a crush, a partner, an ex or someone new, compatibility with all 12 signs and why, the two tarot cards tied to the sign, and what the Jupiter-in-Leo transit (running until July 2027) and the 2027 Leo eclipse mean.

Born on the cusp?

If your birthday is July 22 or 23, or August 22 or 23, you can’t tell your Sun sign from the date alone. The Sun moves into a new sign at a set moment, and that moment shifts by several hours from year to year and changes the calendar date depending on your time zone. A birth chart calculated for your birth time and place settles it.

Why sources give different Leo dates

Some reference works give July 24 to August 23, most horoscope columns give July 23 to August 22, and Vedic astrologers give mid-August to mid-September. The first two are both tropical (tied to the seasons) and differ only in how they round the ingress. The third is sidereal: it follows the constellations, which have drifted about 24 degrees because of the precession of Earth’s axis. If you read Western horoscopes, the tropical date is the one that applies to you.

Leo Personality Traits

A lion resting on a sunlit rock at golden hour, calm and regal

The core Leo drive is to be seen, and seen as excellent. People usually describe Leos as “confident”, but the confidence grows out of a deeper need for recognition. That need powers the sign, and it is also where Leos get hurt most easily.

Core strengths

  • Warmth. Leos are affectionate, quick to laugh and generous with praise. At their best, people around them feel bigger, not smaller.
  • Courage. Leo says what nobody else in the room will, and defends someone being treated unfairly even when it costs them.
  • Loyalty. Once you are in a Leo’s inner circle, you stay there. They remember birthdays and show up at hospitals.
  • Creativity. The Fifth House link shows up as a need to make things: music, performances, businesses, elaborate dinner parties.
  • Natural authority. Leos take charge of chaos without being asked, and most people are relieved when they do.
  • Optimism. Leos treat a setback as a plot twist, not an ending.

Weaknesses

  • Pride. Apologising is hard for a Leo. They will often fix the problem lavishly rather than say “I was wrong.”
  • Need for applause. Praise is fuel. Take it away and the Leo sulks or performs harder.
  • Stubbornness. The Fixed modality means opinions, routines and grudges set like concrete.
  • Drama. Minor slights become sagas.
  • Overshadowing. Leo can forget that other people need their moment too.
  • Spending. Money goes fast, usually on things that look good or make someone else happy.

What Leos dislike

  • Being ignored, talked over or treated as ordinary
  • Criticism in public, especially in front of people they want to impress
  • Thoughtless, last-minute gifts
  • Taking orders from someone they don’t respect
  • Grey, joyless routines
  • Facing a hard truth about themselves before they are ready

Leo as a Fixed Fire Sign

Leo At a Glance Attributes Chart

Leo is the only sign that is both Fixed and Fire, and that pairing explains why Leo energy lasts where other fire burns out. The Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) fall in the middle month of each season. Their job is to hold steady what the Cardinal sign started. Leo sits in the settled heat of Northern Hemisphere midsummer.

The three fire signs compare like this:

Fire sign Modality Image How the fire behaves
Aries Cardinal A struck match Fast, bright, quickly spent
Leo Fixed A hearth fire, or the Sun Constant, radiant, hard to put out
Sagittarius Mutable A wildfire Jumps from tree to tree

In practice, Fixed Fire gives Leos:

  • Endurance. They finish the album, the degree, the renovation. All fire signs start things easily. Leo keeps going.
  • Reliability. If a Leo said Friday, they mean Friday.
  • Resistance to change. Leos distrust new ideas unless they thought of them. To change a Leo’s mind, appeal to their values, never attack their ego.
  • Rituals. For a sign that hates boredom, Leos keep surprisingly fixed habits: the same coffee order, the same table.

This is also why Leo clashes most with the other Fixed signs. Two immovable objects rarely compromise.

The Sun as Leo’s Ruler

Leo is the only sign ruled by the Sun. In a birth chart the Sun stands for identity, vitality and purpose, and for Leo those themes run through the whole personality. Leos find out who they are by expressing it, out loud and in public.

In medical astrology the Sun also governs the heart, which is why “heart” language fits Leo so well. Leos lead with it and get hurt through it.

The Sun spends about 30 days in each sign. Its yearly pass through Leo, from late July to late August, is the sign’s home season. During that month, astrologers say visibility, play and self-expression are strongest for everyone.

The Fifth House carries the same themes. It rules creativity, romance (as opposed to the Seventh House of contracts and marriage), children, play and speculation. Traditionally it is also the house of gambling, which fits Leo’s comfort with bold bets in business and love. When a Leo stops creating, flirting or playing, it usually means something is wrong.

Leo in Real Life: Crushes, Partners, Exes and Decisions

Most people searching for “Leo” have a specific person in mind. The patterns below come from the sign’s standard symbolism (Fire, Fixed, Sun-ruled, Fifth House). Treat them as a starting point. They don’t replace knowing the actual person, whose Moon, Venus and Mars signs can change the picture a lot.

When you have a crush on a Leo

Leos respond to people who notice them in a specific way. “You look nice” does little. “That speech you gave about the budget was the sharpest thing in the meeting” lands. Leos can spot empty flattery, so praise something real.

What works:

  1. Be visibly yourself. Leos are drawn to people with their own spark. Shrinking to fit around them reads as dull.
  2. Show up to their thing. Their gig, their launch, their birthday. Being in the audience matters to a Leo.
  3. Make a clear move. Mixed signals frustrate Fire signs. A direct invitation beats weeks of hinting.

What backfires: teasing that embarrasses them in front of others, and trying to make them jealous. Leo pride is more likely to walk away than to compete.

How to tell a Leo likes you

Leos rarely hide interest. Common signs:

  • They seek you out in group settings and tell their best stories when you’re listening.
  • They give you nicknames or private jokes.
  • They pay, plan or make a fuss about things, early on.
  • They get noticeably hurt when you don’t react to something they shared.

A Leo who has gone cool and formal with you is usually protecting their pride after feeling ignored. It rarely means they’ve lost interest. A single sincere compliment often brings them back.

When your partner is a Leo

A committed Leo is protective, generous and affectionate, and expects to be your favourite person, not one of several. Most fights with a Leo partner come from two things: feeling taken for granted, or being criticised in a way that feels public.

What helps:

  • Say appreciation out loud, regularly. Words of affirmation are what Leos most want to hear, even when their own way of giving love is gifts and touch.
  • Raise problems privately. Start with what is working, then name the issue as something you both want fixed.
  • Protect the fun. Leo relationships that lose their sense of play lose the Leo. A planned date night does more than a long talk about “us”.
  • Don’t expect a formal apology. A Leo who was in the wrong often makes up with a gesture: dinner booked, the chore done. Accept the gesture, then ask for the words calmly later.

The pattern to watch: Leos can mix up being adored with being loved. They may stay too long with someone who flatters them and leave too fast when someone gives honest feedback. The mature Leo learns that the right partner does both.

When your ex is a Leo

Leos are proud, so they rarely beg to come back and rarely admit they miss you directly. A returning Leo usually shows up through visible signals: a post they know you’ll see, a “happened to be nearby” message, or a friend passing on that they asked about you.

Do Leos come back? The Fixed modality makes them loyal to what they built. But it also makes them hold grudges once trust is broken, especially over public humiliation or infidelity. An ex-Leo who felt dumped without explanation is more likely to reconnect than one who felt mocked.

If you want to reconnect, a short, sincere message that admits your part works better than a dramatic gesture. Leo can do drama better than you can. If you want closure, say so clearly. Leos read ambiguity as an invitation.

When you are meeting a Leo for the first time

Leos make strong first impressions and remember people who match their energy. On a first date or in a first meeting:

  • Pick somewhere with atmosphere: a lively restaurant, a show, a rooftop. A beige chain café leaves no impression.
  • Ask about what they’re proud of, then actually listen.
  • Hold your own in conversation. Leos lose interest in people who only agree.
  • Expect them to be generous, and say thank you without a fuss.

When a Leo is facing a decision

Leos decide fast when the choice affects their reputation, and slowly when it means admitting a past choice was wrong. Fixed signs stick to their first plan.

If you’re helping a Leo decide, frame the options around the person they want to be (“which choice would you be proud of in five years?”), not around what they’d lose. If you’re the Leo, the Fifth House question is useful: which option lets you create something and be seen doing it? Then check that question against your budget, because Fire-sign enthusiasm tends to underestimate costs.

Leo Compatibility With All 12 Signs

Leo Compatibility Chart

On Sun signs alone, Leo’s easiest matches are Aries and Sagittarius, the other fire signs, followed by the air signs Gemini and Libra. Taurus and Scorpio are the hardest. The ratings below use the two standard tools of Sun-sign astrology:

  • Element. Fire gets along with Fire and Air.
  • Aspect. This is the angle between the signs: a trine (120°) and sextile (60°) are easy, a square (90°) brings friction, an opposition (180°) brings attraction plus tension, and a quincunx (150°) needs constant adjustment.

Whole-chart synastry, including the Moon, Venus and Mars, can override any of this.

Compatibility table

Sign Aspect to Leo Rating Why
Aries Trine Excellent Matching Fire energy. Fights are loud but short
Taurus Square (both Fixed) Challenging Taurus finds Leo showy, Leo finds Taurus dull, neither budges
Gemini Sextile Very good Gemini’s wit entertains Leo, Leo’s warmth grounds Gemini
Cancer Neighbour sign Mixed Cancer gives the devotion Leo craves, but moods and bluntness collide
Leo Same sign Good, with caveats Glamorous and passionate if both share the spotlight
Virgo Neighbour sign Difficult Virgo critiques, Leo takes it personally
Libra Sextile Very good Libra charms, Leo protects. Both love beauty and a social life
Scorpio Square (both Fixed) Challenging Intense attraction, then control battles over privacy and openness
Sagittarius Trine Excellent Adventure and humour. Friction over commitment
Capricorn Quincunx Difficult Both want to lead, and Capricorn’s coolness reads as cold
Aquarius Opposition Strong attraction Magnetic pull, but detachment frustrates Leo
Pisces Quincunx Mixed Pisces adores Leo, but vagueness and directness grate over time

Best matches for Leo

Aries moves at Leo’s pace. Neither sulks for long and both say what they mean. The two egos compete for the steering wheel, but it often settles because Aries likes starting things and Leo likes running them.

Sagittarius adds philosophy and humour to shared Fire, and makes Leo laugh at themselves, which few signs can. The friction is commitment: Leo wants a throne for two, Sagittarius wants a plane ticket.

Gemini brings variety and genuinely enjoys being an audience. Gemini’s flirtatiousness can trigger Leo jealousy, so trust needs building early.

Libra is underrated for Leo. The zodiac’s diplomat instinctively knows how to make a Leo feel appreciated, and both enjoy dressing up, hosting and being seen as a couple.

Hardest matches for Leo

Taurus and Scorpio both square Leo, and both are Fixed. The attraction is real, especially with Scorpio, but nobody yields. Taurus wants quiet comfort and resents Leo’s spending. Scorpio wants depth and privacy while Leo wants open, public affection. Each partner ends up feeling unseen in exactly the way they fear most.

Capricorn and Virgo struggle with Leo’s theatrical side. These pairings often work better in business (Leo fronts, the Earth sign manages) than in romance.

Leo and Aquarius: the opposite sign

The Leo-Aquarius axis is about the individual versus the group. Leo says “look at me.” Aquarius says “look at us.” Aquarius finds Leo’s need for admiration slightly embarrassing, and Leo finds Aquarian distance baffling. When it works, Leo learns humility and Aquarius learns warmth. This axis is also where the lunar nodes sit until March 2028 (more on that below).

Leo Man vs Leo Woman

The sign’s traits are the same for everyone. Social expectations shape how they show.

The Leo man tends to perform his confidence: holding court at dinner, picking up the bill, planning the big birthday. He wants to be seen as a provider and protector, and his pride is hurt most when his competence is questioned. He is slow to show vulnerability and fiercely loyal once he does.

The Leo woman is often called regal. She keeps high standards for herself and for how she’s treated, is warm with the people she loves, ambitious at work and uninterested in partners who feel threatened by her success. Being overlooked hurts her most.

Leo Career and Money

Leos need work that offers visibility and autonomy. Put a Leo in a cubicle with a micromanager and they will probably leave within a year. Give them a stage, a team or a storefront with their name on it and they’ll outwork everyone.

Best careers for Leo

Field Why it suits Leo
Performing arts (acting, music, comedy) The sign’s archetype is the performer
Founding or leading a company Comfortable with responsibility and public accountability
Politics and public advocacy Speaking and persuading come naturally
Creative direction (fashion, advertising, design) Taste plus authority
Teaching and coaching An audience that grows under their guidance
Events, hospitality, luxury retail Making an occasion feel special
Sales and brand roles Sells by believing in the product and in themselves

Leo in the workplace

As a boss, Leo is generous, decisive and protective of the team. The weak spot is feedback going up. Criticise a Leo boss in a one-on-one, start with what’s working, and frame the problem as a risk to the team’s reputation.

As a colleague, Leo volunteers for the presentation and brings cake on Fridays. They can also dominate meetings. The best Leo team players learn to say “we” as often as “I.”

Leo and money

Leos earn well because they ask for what they’re worth, and they spend freely, often on other people. Leos who do well with money usually set up automatic transfers to savings, so the money is gone before they’re tempted to spend it.

Leo in Friendship

A Leo friend throws the party, remembers your anniversary and tells you to dump him. Their friendship is loud, generous and lifelong.

Leo gives Leo expects
Fierce defence when you’re criticised Loyalty when they’re not in the room
Fun, well-planned plans Enthusiasm for their news
Blunt honesty (“that dress doesn’t work”) Showing up to their birthday
Time, money and connections A thank-you for organising

Leos struggle with friends who outshine them in their own area and with friends who go silent for months. They would rather hear “I need space” than be left wondering.

Leo Health and Wellness

Astrology links Leo to the heart, spine and upper back, so it points to cardiovascular health and posture as areas to watch. Leos often carry stress in the shoulders. They tend to stick with exercise that has a social or performance side, such as dance classes, team sports or group fitness, more than solo treadmill sessions.

Daylight matters to Leo mood, and long grey winters hit the sign hard. Burnout is the other risk. Fixed Fire keeps going and going, and then exhaustion arrives all at once after months of running hot.

Leo Lucky Numbers, Colours, Day and Stones

These associations come from the sign’s link to the Sun. The colours, day and metal follow directly from that rulership. The numbers vary more between sources.

Attribute Leo associations
Lucky numbers (commonly listed) 1, 3, 10, 19
Lucky colours Gold, yellow, orange
Lucky day Sunday, the Sun’s day
Birthstones by month Ruby (July). Peridot, spinel and sardonyx (August)
Other stones linked to Leo Tiger’s eye, amber, citrine
Flowers Sunflower, marigold
Metal Gold

The number 1 matches the Sun in numerology and Leo’s instinct to lead. Sunday is named for the Sun in English, German (“Sonntag”) and Dutch (“zondag”).

Leo Tarot Cards: Strength and The Sun

The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn system, which most modern tarot follows, gives Leo two Major Arcana cards. Strength belongs to the sign and The Sun to its ruling planet. The same system assigns three Minor Arcana cards to Leo’s three decans (10-degree slices): the Five of Wands (Saturn in Leo), the Six of Wands (Jupiter in Leo) and the Seven of Wands (Mars in Leo).

Strength, upright and reversed

Strength is numbered VIII in the Rider-Waite-Smith deck and XI in the older Tarot de Marseille. Arthur Edward Waite swapped it with Justice to match the Golden Dawn’s astrological order. The card shows a woman calmly holding a lion’s jaws, an infinity sign above her head and flowers at her waist.

  • Upright: power that is calm and doesn’t force. The lion is tamed by warmth and self-control, not dominance. For a Leo, it’s both a mirror and a lesson.
  • Reversed: the Leo shadow. Insecurity disguised as arrogance, a temper that has slipped its leash, or self-doubt behind a loud front.

The Sun, upright and reversed

The Sun (XIX) shows a radiant face above a garden wall, four sunflowers and a naked child on a white horse carrying a red banner. Nakedness means nothing to hide. The horse is strength under control, and the banner is vitality.

  • Upright: one of the most positive cards in the deck. Success, clarity, health and joy that spreads to everyone nearby. It’s Leo at their best.
  • Reversed: dimmed rather than negative. Work has pushed out joy, or pessimism is blocking a success that’s already within reach. The fix is in the image: drop the armour and do something purely for fun.

How the Leo cards read next to common neighbours

Pairing Common reading
Strength + The Sun Confidence that is earned and visible. A strong sign for a public step
Strength + The Chariot Gentle control (Strength) against driving force (The Chariot, Cancer’s card). Ask which one the situation needs
Strength + The Tower A shock that tests your composure. Stay steady, don’t react
The Sun + The Moon Clarity after confusion, or the need to bring a hidden worry into the light
The Sun + The Lovers A warm, open relationship, or a choice you can make with confidence
The Sun + Six of Wands Public recognition. Both carry Leo symbolism, and the Six is the Jupiter-in-Leo decan card
Strength reversed + Five of Wands Ego clashes and petty competition, often at work

Leo Rising and Leo Moon

Plenty of people without a Leo Sun carry strong Leo traits through their rising sign or Moon. Of the three main placements, the Sun is the core identity, the rising sign (Ascendant) is the first impression, and the Moon is emotional needs.

Placement What it shows What it looks like in Leo
Leo Sun Core identity and purpose Needs to be seen and to create
Leo rising First impression, outward style Walks in as if expected. Warm, often notable hair
Leo Moon Emotional needs, what feels safe Needs to feel special to loved ones, in private

Leo rising

Leo rising people seem confident even when they feel anxious inside. Astrology has long linked the placement to a “mane” of hair and a warm, open manner. A Leo Ascendant also makes the Sun the chart ruler, so the Sun’s house and sign shape the life path. A Leo rising with the Sun in Virgo in the Second House, for example, tends to build identity through careful, well-paid work, not performance.

Leo Moon

A Leo Moon wants consistent private appreciation more than public applause, which is the clearest difference from a Leo Sun. They are emotionally generous, warm with children and animals, and react dramatically when hurt. Being ignored by someone they love is the deepest wound. Their adult work is learning that love doesn’t have to be earned by performing.

Leo Mythology and the Constellation

Leo constellation in a starry sky

The Lion is one of the oldest constellation figures still in use. The Babylonian star catalogue MUL.APIN lists it as UR.GU.LA, usually translated “the Great Lion”, though scholars note the Sumerian term can refer to a lion-like demon. MUL.APIN calls the star on the lion’s breast LUGAL, “the King”. That star is Regulus, Latin for “little king”, and the royal title has followed it through Greek and Roman astronomy.

The Greek story attached to Leo is the Nemean Lion, the first of the twelve labours of Heracles. No weapon could pierce its hide, so Heracles wrestled and strangled it in its cave. He skinned it with its own claws and wore the pelt as armour. In most versions the lion was then set among the stars.

The myth fits the sign. The impenetrable hide is Leo’s pride: nothing from outside gets through it, only something from within. Heracles himself is a very Leo hero, strong, dramatic, prone to excess and defined by public deeds.

Because of precession, the constellation Leo no longer lines up with the tropical sign. Western astrology fixes the zodiac to the seasons, so Leo season always falls in late July and August, wherever the stars sit.

Famous Leos

The pattern is hard to miss: performers, heads of state and people who built brands around their own name.

Leo Season for Every Sign

Leo season runs from about July 22 or 23 to August 22 or 23. In 2027 the Sun enters Leo on July 23 at 01:04 UTC (the evening of July 22 in US time zones) and leaves for Virgo on August 23, UTC. Whatever your own sign, astrologers treat this month as the time when solar themes are strongest.

  • Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) feel energised. A good month to launch, perform or ask for a raise.
  • Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) get a social lift. Aquarius, Leo’s opposite, often sees relationships act as mirrors.
  • Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) may find the pace tiring. Put the energy into a creative project instead of fighting it.
  • Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) can feel overexposed. Leo season pulls you out of your shell anyway.

Leo Transits: Jupiter in Leo and the 2026-2028 Eclipses

Late 2026 and 2027 put Leo at the centre of the sky. Jupiter is in Leo until July 26, 2027, the lunar nodes sit on the Leo-Aquarius axis until March 2028, and a long total solar eclipse falls in Leo on August 2, 2027.

Jupiter in Leo (June 30, 2026 to July 26, 2027)

Jupiter entered Leo on June 30, 2026. It visits each sign about once every 12 years, and its previous stay in Leo was 2014 to 2015. Astrologers read it as a year of opportunity, confidence and visibility for Leo Suns and Leo risings. It comes with the usual Jupiter warning: spending, waistlines and egos all tend to inflate.

Jupiter turns retrograde at about 27 degrees Leo in mid-December 2026 and goes direct at about 17 degrees Leo in mid-April 2027. Most ephemerides put it at December 12 or 13 and April 12 or 13. Astrologers usually treat the retrograde as a time to review and finish what started in summer 2026, rather than launch something new. The forward push comes back from mid-April to late July 2027.

The lunar nodes in Aquarius and Leo (July 2026 to March 2028)

On July 26, 2026, the North Node moved into Aquarius and the South Node into Leo, for the first time since 2007. Eclipses follow the nodes, so Leo and Aquarius take the eclipses until early 2028.

In nodal astrology the South Node shows familiar habits to outgrow, and the North Node the direction of growth. For Leo the theme is moving from personal applause toward contributing to a group: shining without needing to outshine.

Eclipse dates on the Leo-Aquarius axis

Date Eclipse Zodiac position Notes
August 12, 2026 Total solar About 20° Leo Totality crossed Greenland, western Iceland and northern Spain
February 6, 2027 Annular solar 17°38′ Aquarius Visible as an annular eclipse from South America
August 2, 2027 Total solar 9°55′ Leo Totality up to 6 min 23 s near Luxor, Egypt. Path crosses southern Spain and North Africa
August 17, 2027 Partial lunar 24°12′ Aquarius Leo-Aquarius full moon
January 26, 2028 Solar Aquarius Near the North Node, one of the last eclipses of the series

The August 2, 2027 eclipse is the one Leos will hear about most. Solar eclipses act as charged new moons, so astrologers read it as a fresh start in Fifth House matters: creative work, romance, children and self-expression. It’s strongest for anyone with planets or angles around 5 to 15 degrees of Leo, Aquarius, Taurus or Scorpio.

Pluto in Aquarius (late 2024 to the early 2040s)

Pluto settled into Aquarius in November 2024 and stays there until the early 2040s. Pluto is now in the first degrees of Aquarius, so Leos born in the first week of the sign feel the opposition first. Astrologers tie this long transit to big changes in how fame, attention and authority work. That makes Leo’s question the same as the nodes’: what is your visibility for?

A note on evidence

These are the meanings of an interpretive tradition, not measured effects. The best-known controlled test, physicist Shawn Carlson’s double-blind study published in Nature in 1985, found that astrologers could not match birth charts to personality profiles better than chance. Many readers use Leo symbolism as a lens for reflection rather than a prediction. Used that way, it works best when you test it against how a real person behaves.

Your Next Step

If you’re a Leo or close to one, look up the exact Sun, Moon and rising signs in a birth chart before relying on the general picture. A Leo Sun with a Capricorn Moon acts very differently from a Leo Sun with a Gemini Moon. Then mark the August 2, 2027 eclipse and Jupiter’s direct station in mid-April 2027: those are the two dates when astrologers expect Leo themes to peak.

FAQ

What are the Leo zodiac dates?

In the tropical zodiac used in Western astrology, Leo runs from about July 23 to August 22. The exact start shifts each year: the Sun entered Leo on July 22, 2026 at 3:13 pm EDT and enters on July 23, 2027 at 01:04 UTC. In the sidereal zodiac used in Vedic astrology, Leo (Simha) runs from about August 17 to September 16.

What is a Leo’s soulmate sign?

Sun-sign astrology most often names Aries and Sagittarius, the other fire signs, as Leo’s most natural long-term matches, with Libra and Gemini close behind. Aquarius, Leo’s opposite, brings the strongest attraction but needs the most understanding on both sides. Moon and Venus placements matter more than Sun signs for lasting compatibility.

What is a Leo’s biggest weakness?

Pride is the classic Leo weakness, and it shows up as trouble apologising, sensitivity to public criticism and a need for regular praise. The Fixed modality adds stubbornness, so Leos can hold grudges and resist changing their minds. A mature Leo turns the same traits into loyalty and steady leadership.

What tarot card represents Leo?

In the Golden Dawn tradition, Strength is Leo’s card and The Sun belongs to its ruling planet. The Five, Six and Seven of Wands match Leo’s three decans. Strength is numbered VIII in Rider-Waite-Smith decks and XI in the Tarot de Marseille.

What is the difference between Leo Sun, Leo Moon and Leo rising?

A Leo Sun shows core identity: a need to create and be seen. A Leo Moon shows emotional needs, especially feeling special to loved ones in private. Leo rising shows the first impression: warm, confident and noticeable, with the Sun as chart ruler.

Is 2026-2027 a lucky time for Leo?

Astrologers see it as Leo’s biggest stretch in more than a decade. Jupiter, the traditional planet of growth, is in Leo from June 30, 2026 to July 26, 2027, with a retrograde from mid-December 2026 to mid-April 2027. Astrologers also read the total solar eclipse of August 2, 2027, visible across parts of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, as a major new beginning for the sign.

What are Leo’s birthstone, lucky colours and lucky number?

Ruby is the July birthstone, and peridot, spinel and sardonyx are the August stones. Gold, yellow and orange are Leo’s colours, Sunday is its day and gold its metal, all from the Sun’s rulership. The number most often linked to Leo is 1, the Sun’s number in numerology.
